Choosing A Mover
Choosing a mover can be a tricky affair. Perhaps what
is most important is for you to believe that your goods will be
transported safely and on time. It is prudent therefore to spend
some time investigating the mover before engaging their services.
Compare different movers that are available to you so that you can
get the best service at the best cost. Ask friends, co-workers or
relatives which movers they have used and who served them best. No
one can refer you to a lousy mover.
The first thing is to make sure that they – movers - are licensed
and insured. There are different types of licenses in different
states but every moving company should have a license. This is to
ensure that incase of any damage to your items or loss of items, the
company will be in a position to remunerate you for your loss.
The next thing is to find out how long they have been in business.
The longer the company has been in business, the more likely it is
that they can be trusted to undertake the task faithfully.
Generally, a bad company will not stay in business for long. Also
check if they have references. Lack of references could mean that
clients were not satisfied with the services and would not vouch for
the company.
Another thing to check is the legitimacy of the moving company. A
legitimate moving company should have a registered office. Rogue
companies offer no residential address. Often they only offer e-mail
or postal addresses. Knowing the location of their business can help
you track them down incase of any dissatisfaction with the service.
Find out if the company will undertake the moving exercise on its
own or if it is just a broker company. Brokers only refer you to a
particular moving company.
Check the mover’s complaint history. Have they had any mishaps in
the past? If so, how did they handle the situation? If they did not
remunerate the client even when it was obvious that the mistake was
theirs, then they are unlikely to treat you any differently.
Now you can make a visit to the mover’s premises or if that is not
possible, visit their website and ask any questions you might have.
Find out how they protect the items from damage i.e. what kind of
material they use for wrapping. Also ask about the mode of
transportation and how long the transition will take. This will help
you in choosing a convenient date for the transportation and in
estimating the cost of the move.
Lastly, after putting all the above points into consideration,
compare the costs of the different movers. This does not mean that
you go for the cheapest mover. You might be saving some money but at
the expense of the safety of your items.
Choose the most reputable
company that offers the best services at the most affordable rates.
